Due to expansion we are looking for an experienced Business Development Director who is eager to explore (sales) opportunities in ground-breaking scientific clinical research. As part of our business development team, you will directly report to our Chief Commercial Officer, who is a member of the Management Team of Julius Clinical. As a Business Development Director for Julius Clinical (The Science CRO), your main responsibility is to sell clinical research that delivers scientific added value. You explore various markets in collaboration with the inside sales team, and identify potential new sponsors and opportunities. You manage current and prospective sponsor relations, carefully considering and delivering proposals at sponsors’ requests, and fostering a team environment to successfully meet the targets of the company. The BD team works very closely with the operational and the science department, divided into therapeutic areas (therapeutic alignment). In this way, we create the best solutions for the need(s) of (potential) clients

Tasks & Responsibilities

You will:

  • Be accountable to (over)achieve your yearly sales target for your assigned therapeutic area;
  • Identifies self, or together with the inside sales team, market opportunities and initiates activities to develop suspects into leads and clients.
  • Visit prospective client to introduce capabilities and therapeutic experience in an effort to create new business relationships towards the achievement of targeted annual revenue goals;
  • Communicate with clients and provide information needed (follow-up of contacts, proposals, other information as appropriate);
  • Manage strategic accounts by building and maintaining customer relationships and strategic business relations in specific therapeutic areas;
  • Manage and supervise proposal development (executed together with Department New Projects) and contract execution (relevant for contracts with clients);
  • Liaise with Scientific Officers and Project Managers in preliminary protocol design to enable optimal proposal preparation and budget;
  • Managing bid defense meetings and performing other duties assigned by the management.
  • Address client issues so that a high degree of client satisfaction is maintained and recommend to management ways to improve the firm’s services, as appropriate.
  • Plan and organize specific marketing activities in order to target customers.
  • Attend conferences and trade shows and follow-up on contacts made during these events;
  • Participate in the development of plans for service promotion in support of sales and marketing objectives.
  • Provide and distribute business development reports and statistics.

Job Requirements

  • Academic level of education in (bio-)medical sciences;
  • A minimum of 10 years of extensive and progressive experience in life sciences, including at least 7 years of experience in BD and/or sales & marketing positions in the biopharmaceutical industry;
  • Understanding of the clinical process (PH I – IV).
  • Financial interest and Profit & Loss know-how.
  • Extensive knowledge of the international market of biopharmaceutical companies;
  • For Business Development Director position in Europe: extensive knowledge with therapeutic area Cardiovascular / metabolic is required;
  • Proven sales track record;
  • Proven leadership skills;
  • Proven customer relationship skills;
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills; English and third language would be beneficial;
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time.
